A Note on Comparison - September 17th 2024
Hello my loves. My goodness, it has been a minute. Where did summer go? I’m not entirely sure. I do know that I love autumn though. Cozy sweaters, warm coffee, the beautiful colours of the tree’s. In my opinion, no other season is quite so beautiful.
As I sit here, sipping a coffee, autumnal candle lit and wearing my current favourite knit set.. I can’t help but feel an immense amount of gratitude. I also can’t help but feel a bit of sadness. Over the summer months I was really struggling with comparison. Lack of motivation got the best of me and I certainly did not get done what I had planned to.
Comparison gets me more often than I would like to admit. It’s often about career success and popularity which is absolutely ridiculous I know. However.. I have a feeling I’m not the only one the feels this way sometimes.
That being said, if you do find yourself in the bitterness of comparison at some point, I want to give you a few steps that I think might help. These are steps that I’ve been following and I must say, I’m starting to feel much more like myself.
Step 1 ~
Realize that comparison and jealousy is just bringing to light what you desire. Take note, send good vibes to the individual or situation and try to focus on what steps you can take to point you in the right direction of your desires.
Step 2 ~
I’m going to take a wild guess here and assume that comparison usually comes as a result of social media. So limit it. Mute anyone that might trigger you, unfollow those that make you feel badly about yourself and most of all, limit the time you scroll on any platform. Life is not experienced through TikTok or instagram. Life if happening now, right here. Look up and realize how gorgeous this world is. (Tip : If you feel the need to scroll, my favourite app is Pinterest. I have curated it to be all photos that inspire me and motivate me to work on making my dreams come true. I always feel energized and peaceful after being on it.)
Step 3 ~
Do more of what makes you happy. Like I said before, life is happening now and life is quite short by the way so whenever you have the chance, do what brings you joy and makes you feel good. Move your body in a way that feels good, read your favourite books, get outside, talk to your loved ones, write if you love to and take steps that will get you closer to your goals every single day. When you feel good in your body and in you productivity, it’s much harder for comparison to sneak in and take over.
Step 4 ~
Practice gratitude. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Gratitude is everything. Whenever you feel comparison sneaking in think of 5 things you’re grateful for right then and there. Write them down or repeat them to yourself multiple times. Being in a state of gratitude instantly raises your vibration and the comparison will slip away.
